Rene & Jill Angermeier

Rene and Jill Angermeier moved to Taber separately, but they eventually met each other, got married, and now raise their family in a supportive and wholesome community.

“It’s a close-knit community where people look after each other. Our children are growing up in a community-minded town, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything,” says Jill. “We hope raising our children in a small town builds a foundation for them later in life to be well-rounded individuals.”

She says there are great mentors in the community, and the biggest strength Taber has is the ability for people to connect with each other. Jill says you can sit on a bench with someone, have a conversation, and have it be the best time.

“Being in a small town means you can slow down, be more present, and have time to hangout with your friends and neighbours,” she says.

“People here want to see the best in each other,” says Rene, “And you see that all around. People are real and authentic, and they step up when needed. Our kids love it here.”

The family enjoys how often the community comes together to support sporting, leisure, and fundraising events. And the area feels safe, where Jill is comfortable with her kids being at recreation centres to spend time with friends.

The parents say with there being fitness clubs, sport programs, a golf course, a swimming pool, a trout pond, camping, bike trails, spray parks, and annual family-friendly events, their family can enjoy activities and hobbies separately and as a family.

“I encourage anyone to move here. Taber is a very supportive and unifying town. It may be smaller, but it does big things, and there is an opportunity to do amazing things that are incomparable to anywhere else. I’ve had friends move for jobs and to see them flourish is amazing,” says Rene.

A work-life balance is easily attainable in Taber. Both Jill and Rene are home with their children every night. You can get to and from work in minutes, with little traffic. They say living where you work builds community and allows for people to get to know each other in their spare time.

“You’re not missing out when you live in Taber,” says the couple.
